Creative Writing Intern, Human Rights Foundation (HRF)

Full Time

Description

Location: New York City.

Application Deadline: September 2, 2016.

Internship Period: September 5 through December 16.

Position Overview:  HRF’s Creative Writing Intern will work closely with HRF’s Chief Strategy Officer, Development Specialist, and Communications Specialist on creative writing related to fundraising, media relations, and marketing. Main tasks will include drafting press releases, op-eds, press pitches, social media posts, donor correspondence, and letters of inquiry to grant-giving organizations. There will also be administrative tasks related to development and communications.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a talented and confident writer passionate about promoting human rights in closed societies. Curiosity, creativity, and a desire to learn more about the global struggle for democracy are imperative. Experience in editing and publishing is a plus. A background in creative writing, history, or politics is beneficial but not required.

Compensation: $1,000/month for full-time availability. We are looking to fill a full-time internship, but if you are a great fit, and can only do part-time work because of class commitments, you will be considered.

How to apply: Please familiarize yourself with HRF’s website, 2015 annual report, and some of our recent op-eds and media coverage. Then send a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to info@hrf.org. Your writing sample must be an 800-word profile of a dissident living in an authoritarian country of your choice. This should be an original sample, unless you would like to use something that you have published in the past year that fits the criteria.
